Loretta Devine (Lorrell Robinson / Lorrell Robinson / Lorrell Robinson) , a native of Houston, Texas, was last seen on Broadway in Comin' Uptown with Gregory Hines, and previously played Dionne in Tom O'Horgan's revival of Hair, and was featured in Gower Champion's A Broadway Musical. Ms. Devine received her B.A. in Theatre at the University of Houston and her M.F.A. at Brandeis University. She has appeared in more than 15 off-Broadway productions playing such roles as Miss Truth in Tad Trusdale's Godsong at La Mama, Jewel in Lion and the Jewel at Lincoln Center, and Karma in John Scott's Karma, at the Richard Allen Center. Ms. Devine was seen as Virtue in The Blacks, and also in Mahalia. She is currently heard on Stanley Cowell's album, "Talkin' 'Bout Love." Loretta appeared with Dreamgirls alum Cleavant Derricks in Bob Fosse's Big Deal in 1986. She has appeared in many films (including Urban Legends and Waiting To Exhale). She was the near-the-edge-of-sanity teacher on the TV series "Boston Public."
